Ash wood – aside from pine dowels and a locally sourced beeswax coat
Dark and light marry the old and new of carpentry, it is a series that highlights the structural principles and construction elements found in Japanese craftsmanship – with the use of Yakisugi to create a bold striking difference between the blonde and black wood and joinery with blonde dowels to emphasis components so often overseen.
Connecting the unseen textured parts with the modern-day CNC machined seat and back that are softer and smoothly curved.
An important part of the design of this piece was about wood – the grain and how in some areas it shines, and you can see it but not touch and in other parts the texture from the scorched and wire brushed structure beams is the only thing you can sense significantly.
